Chapter Eight
I looked at Dom, saw the strength in his eyes, and sucked in a steady breath. I could handle this. I could deal with this and use this power for good, though I had no way to figure out how to harness any of it.
A hand covered mine, and I instinctively interlaced my fingers through the long ones that were helping me steady everything in my overwhelmed brain.
âYouâre not a bomb, and youâre not in danger. Iâve got you, Jen,â Dom said. âLetâs see if the witchââ He stopped himself and brought his stunning grin to the young witch standing silently next to Lusa, âSahvannah, do you think you can shield her?â
âIâm going to have to shield both of you. Your physical connection is putting off majorly powerful auras.â Her eyebrows knit together, âDang, you two.â She smiled, and her caramel-colored eyes lit up the flawless, chocolate skin on her face. âHow are you handling this? Iâve never heard of two fated mates being this in tune and strongly connected, and Iâve certainly never heard of it happening at this age. Itâs got to be the fairy or witch in Jenna. This is wild.â
âCan we get back to shielding this before the school hunts us all down?â
âTrue,â Lusa chimed in, looking at Sahvannah with a sweet smile. âDomâs wolf ran that bear shifter off who was sent in to rescue Jenna from her injury, now weâre all gone, and God only knows where E went. We need to get this going.â
âOkay, I need to teleport out of here, and if Iâm not back within fifteen minutes, head back to the school. They can sense when I teleport, and they can use magic to bring me back. I may have some powers outside of what the school teaches, but the stronger witch professors at the school can lock it down at any time.â
âWait,â I dropped Domâs hand and walked toward Sahvannah, âWhat happens if something goes wrong? I get a weird sense that none of us know what the hell weâre doing. If something happens, could it screw up the connection Dom and I have?â
âShit,â Dom said, prompting me to look back at his expression, âJenâs right. If things go south for any reason, can you reverse the spell? I know how bad my wolf will suffer, and itâs half of what Jennaâs will feel. Iâm not going to put her in a position to suffer for even a second.â
âGod, Dom.â Lusa let out a laugh of disbelief, âI didnât think you really had it in you to care about anyone else. Crazy to hear you talk like this, and especially to see that it was Jenna who was meant for you.â
âDonât get all mushy on us yet, Sahvannah hasnât answered us,â I said, looking at the defeated witch. âYou have no answers, do you?â
âI donât.â She sighed, âBut I feel like this is why I was drawn to you.â
âYouâre a witch,â Domâs voice elevated in frustration. âWitches donât go off of feelings.
